Statement on BARDES

The Dental Schools Council is fully supportive of the formal establishment of the British Alliance of Researchers in Dental Education and Scholarship and commends the work of colleagues within the organisation.

DSC recognises the important impact of research on the delivery and assessment of dentistry undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Peer-reviewed robust research is essential to sharing and investigating the best ways of teaching and learning and implementing new findings in general pedagogical research to the dental education context. Cross-school collaborations help schools to make sure our teaching, learning and assessment is relevant for our graduates as the dentistry profession adapts to new information and technologies, patient demographics and other pressures and opportunities.

The BARDES annual conference represents an ideal opportunity for schools to establish conversations, forums and groups to pursue such work. DSC looks forward to engaging with the group to help deliver evidence-based teaching, learning and assessment.
